Craigslist, the San Francisco based online classifieds website has ceased its adult service section after an intervention by 17 states
to abandon this service section. The word “censored” in black print replaced the erogenous service section on the website that alludes prostitutes and escort services.
The letter from the attorneys general of the 17 states mentions that “the increasingly sharp public criticism of Craigslist’s Adult Services section reflects a growing recognition that ads for prostitution — including ads trafficking children — are rampant on it”.
Craigslist’s adult ads also displayed links for child trafficking. Urgent action was required for such services to terminate such illegal services pervading ill to the society, although the adult service section was a big revenue earner for Craigslist.
